US provider Vantage builds three data centers in Melbourne

US-based Vantage Data Centres, which focuses on multinational companies such as Microsoft and Cisco, is building a campus in Melbourne with three data centers that will total approximately 270,000 square feet (25,083 square meters) when completed, depending on the company.

The centers will include 48 MW of critical IT load and will be located on seven acres of land.

Asked about the exact location of the campus, APAC President Brian Groen said he could not disclose it at this time because “our customers typically express privacy requirements to the specific location of our data centers”.

Groen, who has about 40 years of experience in data centers, public cloud, storage and managed services, said iTWire in response to questions that Vantage would not immediately try to obtain the necessary certification to handle government data.

“At this stage, our goal is to meet the needs of our hyperscale customers with a priority on their mechanical, electrical and operational requirements,” he said.

“The DTA [Digital Transformation Agency] The Hosting Certification Framework is a compliance framework that we will work with our cloud service provider customers to obtain if required by them.

“Along with our customers, we have obtained secure government certifications to serve government customers in other jurisdictions, and we have experience in providing secure government cloud delivery.”

Groen said any vendor catering to hyperscale customers could be classified as a competitor to Vantage.

“In APAC, these may be local providers, such as national telcos in some markets; we are also seeing competition from western and larger APAC-based colocation providers,” he added.

Asked about steps taken to reduce heating, given the current climate change debate, Groen said the company is committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2030 on our campuses around the world.

“This will be at our new construction sites first and then cascade to our established sites as we roll out the electricity reduction, fuel conversion and energy offset program,” he said. he declares.

“We also work with our customers to reduce their footprint from simple measures such as temperature and humidity control to on-site renewable energy generation.”

Asked how many jobs would be created when Melbourne was built, Groen said: “As the campus is being built, there will be hundreds of workers on site.

“Once the campus is up and running, Vantage will have operations/maintenance, facilities and security staff to manage the facilities. Our customers typically also have staff on site.”

Vantage, which has a number of data centers in the United States, recently acquired facilities in Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur from PCCW, a family-owned brand in Hong Kong.
