US praises India’s role as net provider of security to Indian Ocean region

Prime Minister Modi and US President Donald Trump held bilateral talks at Hyderabad House in New Delhi.

The United States on Tuesday hailed India’s role as a net provider of security, as well as development and humanitarian assistance to the Indian Ocean region (IOC).
A joint statement from the two countries following the visit of US President Donald Trump released on Tuesday evening said: “The United States values ââIndia’s role as a net provider of security, as well as development and humanitarian assistance in the Indian Ocean region. India and the United States remain committed to the development of sustainable, transparent and quality infrastructure in the region. “
The two countries also noted that the Indo-American partnership will play a key role for a free Indo-Pacific region where international law is respected.
âA close partnership between India and the United States is essential for a free, open, inclusive, peaceful and prosperous Indo-Pacific region. This cooperation is based on the recognition of the centrality of ASEAN; respect for international law and good governance; support for the safety and freedom of navigation, overflight and other lawful uses of the seas, âthe statement said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Trump have expressed a desire to improve the sharing of maritime domain knowledge between the United States, India and other partners.
âPrime Minister Modi and President Trump have decided to step up consultation through India-US-Japan trilateral summits; the mechanism for a 2 + 2 ministerial meeting of foreign and defense ministers of India and the United States; and India-US-Australia-Japan quadrilateral consultations, among others, “the statement said.
The US president concluded his first two-day official visit to India on Tuesday. During the visit, he had limited and delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Modi.
