Saloni Rai is the new Director of Kashmir Industries, Mehmood

SRINAGAR: The administration of Jammu and Kashmir has appointed Saloni Rai, IAS (AGMUT 2016) as Director, Industries and Commerce, Kashmir. She was a collector in Diu before being delegated to Kashmir.

Mehmood Ahmad Shah, who held the position, was transferred to the handicrafts department, replacing Tariq Ahmad Zargar. The latter will wait for GAD to order its adjustment.

Recently, five IAS officers were delegated by the government of Jammu and Kashmir. These include Mrs. Saloni Rai and her husband, Dr. Rakesh Minhas, both 2016 batch officers of the AGMUT cadre, who were assigned to Daman and Diu. Others include Sanjiv M Gadkar and Yatindra Maralkar, both from Goa.

According to media reports, more officers are being deployed to Jammu and Kashmir due to a shortage of officers. Jammu and Kashmir has a sanctioned strength of 65 AGMUT senior positions in Jammu and Kashmir in Indian Administrative Services, 70 in Indian Police Service and 58 in Indian Forest Service.

Ms. Rai is from Sonepat in Punjab. A commerce graduate from the Sriram College of Commerce in Delhi, she was ranked 22nd in the civil service exams in 2016. She is a master of social media.
