Michelle joined Pasadena as director of the Pasadena Public Library on December 19, 2016. Since then, she has “built a strong staff and overseen the continued development of programming at Central and the branch libraries.”

In a letter to City Council, Acting City Manager Cynthia Kurtz said:

The past few years have not been easy for any of the department heads, but the library has been particularly hard hit by COVID as it has had to shut down most public operations as residents have come to depend on them. Then, just as the libraries were beginning to reopen, we received the shocking announcement that the Central Library was in need of major seismic repair and had to be closed.

Michelle has been a strong leader through all of this and has helped build a solid foundation for the future, which will lead to a renewed commitment to library services as well as the rebuilding of the Central Library to serve Pasadena for the next century. We thank her for that, she will be missed and we wish her good luck in her new appointment.

Michelle Perera has accepted a position with the City of Sunnyvale.
