OTTAWA – Filipino-Canadian theater designer Nina Lee Aquino has been asked to bring a bold new vision to the National Arts Center. Aquino has been named artistic director of the NAC English Theater next Thursday.

OTTAWA – Filipino-Canadian theater designer Nina Lee Aquino has been asked to bring a bold new vision to the National Arts Center.

Aquino has been named artistic director of the NAC English Theater next Thursday.

She will succeed Jillian Keiley, who is leaving this summer after a decade at the head of the institution in Ottawa.

Aquino solidified his reputation as a leader in Canada’s theater community during his 10 seasons as Artistic Director of the Factory Theater in Toronto.

She is also an award-winning director, playwright and teacher who has been recognized for championing emerging talent and bringing diverse voices to the stage.

Aquino will take the reins of the NAC English Theater on August 29.

“The NAC I dream of is a creative catalyst for change and transformation,” Aquino said in a statement.

“This is the place where artists and audiences constantly question and explore what is Canada’s place in the world and what is the place of the rest of the world in Canada.
