Aecom appoints new Director of Ground Engineering
Infrastructure consultancy group Aecom has appointed Niall Corney as Director of Ground Engineering for UK & Ireland.
At Aecom, Niall Corney will focus on delivering sustainable and digital ground engineering solutions to customers, promoting the carbon impact this work can have throughout the life of a project.
Corney’s interest in sustainability dates back to his work on the ‘Sustainable Geosystems in Civil Engineering Applications’ guide at Capita Symonds as one of two lead authors – the other being the Aecom Practice Director for ground engineering, Patrick Cox.
Published in 2010, the Waste and Resources Action Program (Wrap) report covered not only the theory but also its practical application. The sustainable solutions built have been audited on a dozen ongoing projects to illustrate that sustainability does not have to come at an additional cost.
Twelve years later, Corney wants to advance Aecom as an industry leader in sustainable soil engineering solutions. Aecom’s strategy for achieving its environmental, social and governance goals is called Sustainable Legacies.
“Sustainability has always been part of Aecom Ground Engineering’s DNA, but now is the time to ensure it is at the heart of everything we do,” said Corney.
“Our industry is entering a period of profound change as customers demand more sustainable solutions to deliver the carbon reductions needed to meet their net zero goals.”
Corney was previously a freelance consultant, having worked for companies such as Keller and Capita and holding positions as far away as Hong Kong and California.
